My half-month update is a bit delayed. I went back to my home country and had bought a new phone (secondhand, to get that sweet discount), which meant I had to reinstall my apps. However, it logged me out of my bank and it took me a couple of days to get back in, but … Continue reading Visiting my home country for cheap
A female investment: Laser treatment
It seems like the FIRE community is dominated by male voices. I have never really given it much thought until now, but I have long been aware of the financial differences between genders - everything from the pink tax to how maternity leave affects female earning potential. But most of all, I have always been … Continue reading A female investment: Laser treatment
FIRE Update 2: May(hem)
We are at the end of May and that means that the paycheck has rolled in, the investments are transferring and I have to look through my finances anyway. It is the perfect time to review my journey and just keep myself accountable. What happened this month? I've been very busy, which has resulted in … Continue reading FIRE Update 2: May(hem)
FIRE in London: How I am keeping expenses down in a big city
Shoreditch is one of my favourite wonderful areas, especially in summertime I should probably start by saying that I have by no means figured my shit out. That is obvious, since I moved from a country with free education to willingly go into student debt in one of Europe's most expensive cities. That being said, … Continue reading FIRE in London: How I am keeping expenses down in a big city
About lockdown life and “getting my shit together”
We are halfway through May and I have somehow not lost my marbles being more or less stuck in my flat here in London. My other flatmates have gone back to their families, and while I enjoy the space and quiet, then I more than ever long to go back to my home country. I … Continue reading About lockdown life and “getting my shit together”

Shopping is a symptom
I have previously touched a little upon consumerism in here, but I have recently read a string of interesting discussions and blog posts about this, so I thought I would give my two cents on it as well. My general theory is that "shopping is symptom" - for everything that is going on for you, really. Now, I am not talking about "shopping" as in "buying food and toilet paper", but when you order another useless gadget on Amazon or browse a string of your favourite webshops "just to see what is new", or you purchase something you semi-like because you have a discount code. Let's try to dig into that a little.
Dang it: I published a book and did not become A Cool Author
People are always surprised when they find out that I have published a book. I say "find out" because I don't really drop that in conversation - it is rarely relevant. I also have a lot of complicated feelings about my book. Let's try to explore that for a bit. First of all, the book … Continue reading Dang it: I published a book and did not become A Cool Author
Using NaNoWriMo as a force of good
It is November and the annual Nanowrimo is currently being pursued by thousands of people all over the globe. It is quite an amazing event and the enthusiasm and support for writing gives me a nice reminder of why I like creating my stories and aggressively typing on my keyboard in the first place. I … Continue reading Using NaNoWriMo as a force of good
Review of Macbeth, or: I Don’t Know Shit About Shakespeare
So I managed to read the second book from my Penguin Book-binge. Honest to god, it took me longer to read the commentary than the actual play itself. Why the frick am I reading commentary? Well, you see... I don't know shit about Shakespeare. Or what all those fancy English words are supposed to mean. … Continue reading Review of Macbeth, or: I Don’t Know Shit About Shakespeare
